What are the bugs? They were on a plant that she bought from her hairdresser. We smashed them all in case they are bad.

I wouldn’t kill them they really are a good sign. They fight off other pest like aphids. People have been known to use them as preventative measures to help their plants

Those are lady bugs aren’t they? Super beneficial! And good luck!

0 Mi piaceThey look like lady bugs. There must be a pest somewhere real close bcz they eat them so its a good sign they are there.
3 Mi piaceTo everyone that thinks they are ladybugs, they are much smaller than ladybugs or ladybug larvae even. Thank you for the answers though!
1 mi piaceI respectfully disagree. You can see their egg case left behind so they’re just babies!
2 Mi piaceI respectfully disagree to that because they are much smaller than ladybug larvae and the larva hatch from the egg not the ladybug.

0 Mi piaceThose are white margined burrower bug nymphs. They are totally harmless to plants and people, and it's normal to find them in large numbers like that. The nymphs all live together in a burrow and their mother brings them food and guards them while they're young. They like plants in the mint and nettle families. In the future, you can put unidentified bugs in a ziplock container, and decide to kill real pests or release harmless ones outside after getting an ID. That way the innocent little guys and helpful garden species can be spared :)
