I got my cordyline fruticosa ‘Red Sister’ plant about two months ago and it has been dropping leaves like crazy ever since. I think I overwatered it in the beginning, but it still hasn’t recovered. The tips of the leaves turn brown and brittle until it consumes the whole leaf and drops it. I have kept it under a grow light for about three days but it still doesn’t seem to be doing any better. Anyone have a suggestions or tips on how to save my baby? UPDATE: I checked the bottom of the pot and it seems to be suffering from some sort of mite. How do I get rid of them?

Leaves dropping may be a sign of too much direct light and/or not enough humidity. Check your rooms humidity levels and get a mist bottle to mist it occasionally!

Also i saw your update, does your pot have drainage? Might also be the issue for the mites. To get rid of them you will need to change the soil and let it completely dry between waterings. Also, make sure if you’re putting it in a decorative pot to have some space between the nursery pot and decorative pot for air flow!

Thank you!! The pot does have drainage but maybe not enough. My room also has very little humidity so I’ll use my humidifier. I did some research and it definitely has some spider mites. I made a mixture of soapy water with some vegetable oil and sprayed the leaves and wipes them down to help kill the mites. I also have a fan on it right now because I read where that will prevent them from coming back. However, the plant is still really light in color and which makes me believe it’s not getting enough sun. Any advice for the discoloration?

Please ignore my grammar. I had a lot to say and obviously didn’t proofread. 😭😂

No worries! For discolouration I think it might be the drainage issue and the mites, it’s probably trying to fight that off. Let it breathe for a while and see but yes after if leaves are lighter it might not be getting enough sun!

If she does drop all her leaves don’t throw her away! I brought mine back from literally the bring of death, she is super resilient. Started with no leaves, just the stalk (this is the first photo i have of her healing process) to this! This is about a 4 month difference

Honestly just having faith, and LOTS of humidity. I mist mine everyday just to be safe, and it definitely helped so much. I’d say the biggest things i changed was more sunlight and less watering (the reason mine dropped leaves was rot). I supplemented with extra misting.
