Hi all. I got this ruby ficus around 3 months ago but have had no growth so far. I’ve changed the soil/pot twice and moved it twice all in hopes of giving it the best conditions to thrive. In this current spot it has been here for around 4-5 weeks. It sits about 2-3 feet away from a FET grow bulb receiving 3000 lux for 12 hours a day. I do fertilize when i water. Currently it sits in an aroid mix 30% perlite, soil and orchids bark. I am wondering for those who have had success growing this ficus what should I be doing different? Any advice appreciated thank you so much!

I find these to be super picky. They really like bright bright indirect light (10-20k lux). I would either try to get another bulb or find a higher rated bulb. You could move the bulb closer too but I don’t think you’ll get enough output. Mine hates being moved and wants to be as far from any vents as possible. I have mine in sun gro cactus soil and it seems to like it. I wouldn’t repot it just make sure the soil dries out in between watering. I only fertilize every other water but that’s just personal preference.

Thank you so much! I will look into getting a stronger bulb then 👍 How fast has yours been growing in these conditions?

I probably get a new leaf every 1-2 weeks or so in the growing season, but I also have four plants in one pot. I notched mine this spring and repotted a month ago so it’s a bit shocked at the moment. I’ll show you some photos of how I’ve had it in the past etc.

Current set up. She’s a bit scraggly looking at the moment 😂.

Somewhere in the middle. Dropped a ton of leaves after bringing it home. It was near a vent and not getting nearly enough light. Put out a leaf maybe once every other month?

They can be sensitive sometimes so they don’t love being repotted and having their roots messed with. They also go through periods where they won’t grow a lot. I’ve had some of mine for 2-3 months that haven’t put off a ton of growth yet but are happy and healthy (just not putting off new leaves) and one is finally starting to give me a new node and one isn’t. Just give it time to settle and aclimate from whenever you last messed with it.

Needs more light. No more repots unless there is an issue with the roots. All that disturbance is likely part of the reason for the stunted growth.
