Hey guys! First time plant dad and as the saying goes, “The first one is always the hardest “! I have a Croton Petra and I’m kinda confused on whether I over watered my plant or if there’s thrips. Planta diagnosed the condition as thrips and I’m not so sure after viewing some of the comments in this thread. Here is the picture of how it looked earlier today before three leaves fell off. Anyone know what’s going on? I also sprayed it with neem oil just in case it was thrips.
if you have tt Paige Tailyn posted something 6-22 about thrips, what to look for and things that can help. from a glance i cant see any thrips which if you wanna look they look like this picture, or sometimes little while larva on your leaves. otherwise it could be something like scale, or maybe not enough humidity

What's the underside of the leaf look like? Looks like thrips to me, but equally cons be done other infection. Definitely looks sick rather than over watered though
1 mi piaceThe underside of the leaf had black stuff on it. Wasn’t entirely sure if it was a thrip, but I have seen a fly or two nearby. Any suggestions on how to take care of a sick plant? I currently left my plant outside where there is more humidity.
0 Mi piace It's thrips. The dark marks are their poo! This app says to shower the plant to get off any eggs larve etc, then spray both sides of the leaves with "Provera ultimate bug killer" as they are resistant to many pesticides. Repeat weekly for 4-6 weeks. Keep it quarantined and get BLUE sticky fly traps (they ignore yellow). It also suggests getting bugs to eat the bugs! I googled the varieties. Haven't bought yet. Some plants I decided to just chuck out as they weren't worth the effort, but I'm about to treat All my plants inside and out! They multiply very quickly and are hard to get rid of. If you haven't got the premium version of this app, google was really helpful. Good luck. It's pretty stressful!
1 mi piaceThanks! I placed neem oil all over and washed out the black spots. I also placed the plant outside, as the humidity kills them according to Google.
