My plant isn’t doing well. I know nothing about plants and am terrible at keeping them but I have had this one for a while. I’m not sure if it needs repotting as I have never changed its pot since buying. Can anyone help find out what it needs.

This plant looks like a dracaena fragrans, if the pot doesn’t have drainage holes it could be overwatered, if the soil is super dry then it probably needs water, otherwise maybe it’s a humidity issue? If your air is really dry you might want to get a humidifier for it. If when you water it, it dries up very quickly, within a few days, you might need to repot it into a bigger pot

I feel like your plant honestly looks pretty good! Maybe a couple of crispy leaves but nothing major that I’m seeing. If it has a lot of roots coming out of the bottom of the pot or if you’re worried about the quality of the soil/the soil is too moisture retentive, then it might be good to repot. This is a plant that really prefers to dry out, so when repotting, you want to give it a really well draining, chunky soil mix-just store bought potting mix/soil will retain too much moisture. I would recommend making your own potting mix that is equal parts potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark; you can buy all of those at most big box stores and it will make your plant very happy! It’s also important to make sure that your new planter has drainage holes and is only 1-2 inches bigger than the size of the root ball. If the planter is more than 2 inches bigger, the roots won’t be able to soak up all the moisture and will rot. For general care, water this plant when it’s 75% dry but not 100% dry. I treat my Planta reminders to water as reminders to check the soil and see if it’s ready to be watered or not. I do so by taking a chopstick and sticking it 75% of the way into the soil. If the chopstick comes out dry, it’s ready to be watered. If the chopstick comes out damp or with any soil clinging to it, hit “snooze” and check again in a couple days. When it is time to water it, water thoroughly like the Planta instructions tell you and then wait until it’s 75% dry to water again. These plants can tolerate lower light but do love bright indirect light, so placing it directly in an east-facing window would be ideal if you have one. You could also put it a few feet away from a south facing window or use a sheer curtain on a west facing window. If you don’t have any of those options, I’d recommend a grow light; just make sure it runs 12-14 hours/day use a light meter (free apps available if you don’t want to buy one) and make sure that it’s getting at least 200-500 foot candles on the leaves for it to grow well. Sorry if that was too much info! I get excited helping other plant parents out. Good luck.
