Hi I’ve had this plant for a little over a year now and it’s been doing pretty good as far as I can tell but recently we brought it down from on top of my cabinet and found that it appears to be rotting or something at the base of one of them. I believe it’s a Hurricane Cactus but still not sure. The other plant in the same pot is doing fine so it shouldn’t be overwatering or anything but now it has this thin leathery texture and I’m a little worried for it. We got it when we went to Oregon and is kind of like a souvenir so I’d like to keep it alive

    These need a cactus type mix. It looks like it may be holding too much water for it. And not getting enough light, so the offshoot are skinny

    The pot is too big and is holding too much moisture retentive soil. The roots can’t use all the water. It’s susceptible to root rot. Use cactus soil which drains fast and has lots of aggregates. The new growth is spindly from insufficient light. 🪴🍀

      My new growth is spindly as well. It’s in an east window 1 hr to 2 hours of direct sunlight. She gets a little morning light. My next choice would be a south east window that gets around four hours of direct sunlight. (The direct sun is in the winter otherwise, light is filtered by an Oak tree). Any suggestions would be appreciated and TY Sunny.
