Hi guys :) my mom propagated this peace lily for me so it’s always been in water and the roots are turning brown. What’s happening? I’ve tried hydrogen peroxide and cutting off the ends but they just went back to brown at the tips. It’s growing a new leaflet so it’s clearly growing. What do I do?!

I think it just may be developing harder roots in the water. I wouldn’t cut them anymore and let them grow longer so you can plant it soon.

I’m not wanting to plant it. I want to keep it in water!

ohh gotcha! Yeah, I say just let it develop. Don’t cut its roots anymore and if possible, get it a bigger container to be in so it can spread its roots.

That’s what’s happened to mine. Mine is in a planter with a betta fish. Plant seems to like it.

I water propagate all the time and sometimes this happens! No need to worry unless plant is doing bad or the roots are mushy! Sometimes weirdly enough water roots just turn brownđŸ˜‚â€ïž

Also, how deep do you put your plant in the water?

I’d say so! Sorry it’s blurry lol but for reference here’s a pro I’ve had going for a bit! Never been in soil! You can see faintly the back root on the left is all white but the main ones are dark dark brown for me! The have a mind of their ownđŸ€Ș

just enough for the roots to get water, but not too much of the actual plant cause I can start rotting if it’s fully submerged

About here if you’re worried but honestlyđŸ«Ł I fill mine to the top, but I haven’t propagated this plant specifically. *Some plants* won’t get mushy stems or anything in water!! Just depends!

The roots will change color if you plan on leaving them in water. Do you change the water every week so good oxygen will remain in the water also this prevents algae in the water

As long as they are firm. The roots are turning brown because they are exposed to light.
