My most prized plant, a once beautiful, 9-leaf albo, has gone off the deep end. About a month ago I combined two of them into the same pot, and one week later the leaves started falling off and the roots started rotting. I separated them, cleaned the roots, and crossed my fingers, but this is her today. Is she salvageable? I’m honestly scared to check the roots in case there are none 😭

That stem being withered might be a red flag 😕. I would take a couple of nodes from the top to see if you could reroot them. Before that, I would check under that top Velcro strip to see if there was a new growth point under it. I’m also curious as to whether or not the notes are spent? If the roots aren’t rotted and the stem still has its integrity, you should be able to chop a few nodes from the top, propagate them, and continue watering the plant until it starts growing again…

I just pulled it out and there was one single root that had rot. I’m going to see if I can chop and propagate 🤞

I would increase the light it’s getting along with propagating sections. Low light can also cause leaves to drop. 🪴🍀

“Wet stick” propagation would work for this

Wet stick propagation refers to rooting leafless cuttings of plants. The best way I can explain it is chopping the plant into individual pieces that include a root and an auxiliary bud (a little bump where the plant will produce new growth from). You tuck the pieces into the substrate of your choice (I like sphagnum moss mixed with perlite for mine), moisten the substrate (but don’t leave too much moisture, else the chunks will rot), and place it in a container you can seal 90-100%. I normally have about a 75% success rate propagating monstera this way. Plants may take weeks to months to pop new growth. Heat helps growth if you can provide that. I’ve had good luck propping in a sunny window or on a glass shelf with a grow light affixed underneath (providing warmth).
