Having trouble getting this sage to grow. I planted it last year from seed and it’s never gotten any bigger than this. It’s with my strawberries. I added some all purpose slow release fertiliser granules and water it so the soil is moist but not wet. It’s kept in a sunny spot. Does anyone have any advice on helping this guy grow more?

I would carefully pull it out of the soil and check the roots/soil. Check if the soil is compacted around it preventing the roots from growing out. I would check if roots from nearby plants have tapped into the soil around the sage. You may have to put it into a small pot until it gets larger. I would work root stimulator into the soil and on the topsoil. I would add SuperThrive plant vitamins. Recently added fertilizer beads takes a while to activate compared to liquid fertilizer that is readily absorbed with water. Fertilizer beads are good for up to 8 months, at most, and needs to be added 1 to 2 times a year depending on the brand. 🪴🍀

Btw, that mint can easily take over that planter or a garden bed. They put runners just under the soil that quickly spread. Even a one inch section of that runner can produce a new plant. I’ve grown mint in large terracotta pots placed on top of a concrete patio at least 3 feet from my lawn. I learned the hard way that they can grow out of the drain holes and spread.

Thank you Sunny! I will check the roots today and give it some root stimulator and liquid fertiliser. There’s no mint here, it’s just sage and some strawberry plants (I’m using it as a companion plant for my strawberries). I’ve kept mint in a separate pot far away from everything else as I also learned this the hard way! 😂

I thought the front lower plant was mint and the middle rear plant was sage.
