I bought this philodendron hybrid (?) Recently and these little yellow dots poped up once i got home (noticed it). Anyone know why and what it could be?… Should i be concerned?… still growing and giving new growth and i have yet to repot it Since its in the tiniest Pot ever Lol (inside of the decorative pot its in now… Also very top heavy lol)

It could be a couple of conditions causing the spots. My initial guess is edema when too much moisture in the leaves causing the cells to burst. Let the soil dry before watering. Ensure there is good air circulation around the plant to help evaporate the moisture in the soil. Give it the same amount of light it was getting at the nursery even if it means adding a grow light. The other possibility that causes yellow polka dots is Extrafloral Nectaries. It’s a protective mechanism in some plants that secrete a sugary nectar through leaves and stems to attract ants or similar insects. These insects are attracted to the nectar and kill off all invaders like scales, gnats and spider mites to try to eat the leaves. Philodendron is one of several species that produces this nectar. 🍀🪴

Okay thank you so much! I did notice that the soil was VERY wet when i bought it And i have let it Dry out since i got it. I almost watered it Yesterday but I decided not just yet … i believe there is definitely a spider or some sort living with this plant so definitely have left it alone And Giving it neem oil (dunno that will be the only thing to help lol) Ive had it for almost 2/3 weeks now (soil is still damp which I assume its because of the soil they use in Greenhouse/nursery) and want to repot it and upsize the pot because its VERY little and very top heavy. Should I possibly wait still just incase or go ahead and repot tomorrow?

I would repot with a soil with better drainage since a little pot like that should not take three weeks to dry out. Treat if it’s spider mites. Common spiders are not harmful. They eat the pests that eat your plants. But, I understand not wanting to fool with any insects on indoor plants.

I will Repot it Tomorrow Once i get home from work For sure I just Bought Soil and Mediums a couple days ago And Yeah i Dont do spiders and Theres a Small little spider web that gets Rebuilt every night/morning when i wake up in the same exact Spot. I Have been procrastinating Honestly Just because of a possible spider In it but It probably most likely Spider mites like you said! Never had (possibly) spider mites before so We’ll see tomorrow 😅

Spider mites don’t build the typical patterned circular webs built by common garden spiders. I’m not saying you have spider mites. I’m saying verify if they are spider mites and treat them if they are. Search the internet for images of spider mites, their damage and their webs. Good look🍀🪴
