Hey everyone I have a couple questions Photo 1: why is my monstera cutting turning this yellow colour? It has a chunky soil mix plus no root rot and gets watered/fertilized regularly Photo 2: why is my zebra plant getting these crispy edges? Same as the first photo has a chunky mix etc and doesn’t get too much light Thank you in advance

How often are you watering the monstera and do you check the soil first? This could be from overwatering

Around once a week/ two times a week, whenever the soil is dry

Do you use a skewer/chopstick to see how far down the dryness is first?

That doesnt look like a chunky soil mix. It looks like compost and pearlite

It’s orchid bark, soil & pearlite what would u recommend to make it chunkier?

lots of tropical aroid mixes on the internet with leca and coco chips. I use a mix called “oxygen boost” which youre supposed to add to established soil, but i just keep my monstera with no soil. For you, for now, a layer of gravel at the bottom would really help with drainage. …The leaf itself looks in rough shape though. Too much light it seems.

About the monstera, honestly it looks overwatered. It’s difficult with new cuttings because they don’t have much a root system to use all the soil in the pot. I often place new cuttings into terracotta pots because they are porous. And the zebra, I researched this plant a couple weeks ago because I almost bought one. Their needs are picky. Decided not to buy. The crispy leaves are probably because of low humidity. Not really low but for them it is. They need 60-70% humidity. And constantly moist soil. Only upper part should dry out.

Side note about your Monstera… the strap is in the way of the sheath for new growth to come out of… looks like it’s melting. Plants melt when they need the nutrient resources for other things… in this case it’s likely for root development. If you aren’t sure if it’s overwatering or the melting easiest thing is to check what’s going on under the soil. Monstera actually does really well with hydro… if it’s not developing a root system you can always try it in water for a while.

Also make sure that pot has drainage.

For the crispy leaves… low humidity and underwatering are the usual culprits. Keep its soil moist but not soggy and try a pebble tray or humidifier. Hope this helps!
