My monstersa is having difficulty and I am stumped. The lower leaves are turning yellow and increasing. I have been following the plant a schedule but I am doubting the accuracy. I had it outside; I live in North Central, Florida, on my screened porch. It is all indirect light. The leaves began turning yellow out there, but slowly. We recently had a cold snap so it is inside in a north facing window with a grow light 18” away. I have been spraying it. The plant schedule allowed it to dry out too much so I am now testing the soil myself. The leaves are turning yellow more quickly though!! Just found the cause, bugs. Any ideas as to what it is, how to treat it, and ongoing care? I deeply appreciate any help!

If that's webbing, more than likely spider mites. I'd spray it down really well in the shower and then spray with a pesticide

i think you might need to repot it cause most of the leaves that are yellow are the base of the plant plus it looks huge

I bought the plant a couple months ago and all the Monstera from this guy were huge. It seemed that he was growing them outside. I’ll report it. Thank you!

So… Monstera like to dry out - they also like decent indirect or direct light. If they are too far away from light and they are watered too much - the roots will rot. Check the soil with a bamboo skewer in a few places all the down to the bottom. If the skewer comes out damp or with soil bits on it - stop watering it. Planta is just a guide. You still have to check the soil to see if watering is needed. Hope this helps.

I have an instrument I use that does the same thing as the stick but has an indicator on it that shows how damp or dry.

Would try using SMC spider mite control to kill them - it’s pretty decent at wiping them out like nothing else. Can’t post links here 🙄 but if you type it into Google you’ll find it easily

Thank you! I have not heard of this product before! I have never had a problem with spider mites in years.

I know - they’re a pain in the ass. Basically mites can just blow in through an open window or even come in with cut flowers from the shop. They’re so small they look like dust - best way to spot them is their webs..

I did the spray down in the shower and found web worms as well! I swear I checked the plant before purchasing and didn’t see any bugs. Oh well, I have learned my lesson. I am grateful for all the great advice!
