Hi all, My fiddle leaf fig is pushing out a new leaf thatâs entirely covered in red spots. This has never happened before and the rest of the plant looks very healthy. No signs of infestations and the plant hasnât been repotted or moved in a while. Any idea?
Itâs edema! My FLF has it and itâs just cells bursting. Totally fine not going to hurt anything. When the leaf gets bigger you wonât hardly notice it!

Iâm sure youâre going to get some great answers regarding this. I have that problem with one of my fiddle leaf figs. The red modeling on the underside of the leaves is caused by improper watering, either too much or too little. Theyâre just a bit fussy and like to be watered at the right time which is when they are half dry. So you donât want to overwater and you donât want to underwater.đ”âđ« My fiddle leaf fig, after several months of proper watering, looks great now; most of the red modeling has disappeared. Good luck to you and be a bit more careful about watering. đđđȘŽ

Red spots on fiddle leaf fig leaves are often caused by edema, which is a symptom of inconsistent watering. Edema occurs when a plant's roots absorb more water than the leaves can use, causing pressure to build up and the leaves' cells to burst. The dead cells appear as blisters or dark bruises that are 1â3 mm in size and are only found on new growth. Edema spots are red or brown in color, don't spread or get bigger, and don't leave holes. They will fade over time as the leaves grow out.
