So I got this monstera Thai conn at Walmart for a deal. It had some pretty obvious signs of distress and the leaves were very brown so I cut the damaged leaves off to hopefully give it a chance to grow new/undamaged leaves. I realize now I probably should have just trimmed the damaged parts of the leaves themselves, oops. It seems to have a sort of stem rot really close to the base, and I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do about that? I’m starting to wonder if the plant is even savable. It also had gnats that I’ve been treating and I’m fairly certain those are gone now. It’s also in the Costa Farms self-watering pot but I’ve been on the fence about repotting it. Any thoughts on what else I can do to help this poor plant?

It's likely salvageable. I don't have a ton of experience with monsteras and have never had a Thai con, but I am growing 2 new plants from a piece of stem that had been buried for almost a year so I'm optimistic about your chances. Repotting has pros and cons at this point obviously--it'd be good to get a look at the roots and get it into loose, well - draining aroid media but that would also be a big stress on the plant. At the very least make sure you're not overwatering for the next few weeks and update us about its progress!
