So im a new plant dad, and ive recently been trying to revive these carnivorous plants (2 venus fly traps and one trumpet pitcher plant) that i got for free, and i dont recall seeing these white spots in the soil/moss thing (see the zoomed in flytrap top left in the pot theres a new white spots along the edge). *Note- I think the spots have been spreading but it almost looks like a sort of lichen so thats why im trying to figure out if its good or bad.* The fly traps have made a considerable comeback from when i first got them and i really dont want them to get sick so if anyone knows anything about that please lmk, also if anyone could lmk how to help my pitcher plant stop wilting at the tips that would also be super helpful

Thank you! I have only been using distilled water as well! I found out that its just harmless mold that happens from the dead plant material, bc its in a really moist environment yk

So after having my carnivorous plants for a month and a half or so, I’ve noticed that they do much better than any of my other plants (like new growths are constantly popping up). Out of curiosity have you noticed your carnivores growing much faster than any of the other plants? Ig my other plants (1x trumpet pitcher plant, 1x cactus, 1x umbrella tree) could just be slow growers but it just seems like my carnivores are growing at a very rapid rate and are getting close to needing to be repotted soon

I have. The only one I have to go off of is my butterwort but I almost killed it and managed to revive it. It didnt have enough air flow to start. Now the leaves are like when I first got it. Its relatively small but its popping out leaves like nobody's business lol

Hell yea im glad (s)he’s doing good again!! Okay cool, bc i wasnt sure if i should start to be concerned about my other plants not growing that much bc honestly ive only done research on my fly traps and a very slight amount for the pitcher plant and idek fs if my umbrella tree is correctly identified bc i just used the planta ai thing to identify it

The umbrella tree is correct. And Idk ive never had the perfect humidity for something so big altho i love pitcher plants. My house is very dry so the only way I could save her is by putting a dome with some holes into it to get that airflow. Its perfectly normal. Some plants just grow slower than others. Loving how she attracts all the fungus gnats. Its like a living sticky trap lol

I’ve had those same carnivorous plants and they did extremely well in bright light - outdoors. Mild temperatures. I used reverse osmosis water and kept their “feet wet” but not soggy. They lived outdoors and grew really well and even flowered! Unfortunately I don’t know what the spots are.

I found out that it’s just harmless mold that happened from the dead plant material (like the old dead traps) since it’s in a moist environment
