I got this begonia rieger not that long ago. It did good for a few weeks and then it started wilting and dropping all of its flowers. There's been times where the leaves have felt damp, and there has been times where the leaves feel dry and crispy, I've also been following the Planata schedule completely. It's in standard potting mix that includes fertilizer in the soil. I live in zone 6a but have kept the begonia inside since I've gotten it. It is in a window that gets bright indirect sunlight. I've done the Dr. Planta AI and it is saying that I need to completely swap the soil out and leave the begonia out on paper towel to dry its roots. I've never heard of doing something like that on a plant before and it feels very intimidating, is that something I should do? Or is there any recommendations that could be given? Thank you so much for your time (Edit: dr planta is also saying my begonia is overwatered and overwatered at different times) All of these photos were taken July 20th 2025

Are you using tap water or distilled or rain water? My understanding is that begonias don’t do well with tap…

Just because tap consists of chlorine and fluoride which can cause necrosis and other issues.

Also, don’t follow the Planta water schedule. Instead follow your plant and its specific needs. If it’s still wet, snooze in the app. If it’s dry before time, give it a drink.

Should I wait until the first inch/two inches of soil is bone dry before I water it? As of right now it’s not dry enough to the point where it doesn’t stick to my fingers but there’s also not a lot of dirt coming up

I always use the chopstick method. Use a stick or pencil to poke in, if it comes out caked then it’s too wet. If it comes out with nothing it’s too dry. You want minimal soil sticking to the bottom of the stick and that’s a good point to water
