Help please ! I have wanted a pink princess philodendron for a very long time now, and I finally got my first one! I got her about a week and a half or two weeks ago, from Meijer of all places. The tips of her leaves are withering/drooping, She just looks sad. I think she might be in the wrong soil, I’ve noticed that the soil just does not dry out in between watering and I think the drainage holes may be getting a bit clogged. I take her outside most days when it’s humid and sunny and set her on the porch in indirect light. I also have a humidifier that I live on around my more tropical plants. I always am cautious about repotting plants that I just got, but we’re coming up on the two week mark. Should I repot it in some well draining soil? It seems I’ve watered it about a week ago and it’s still moist on top. I’ve just wanted one of these guys for so long, since the first time I saw one- and it’s making me sad to see her so sad. :( First photo is the day I got her, second photos are today.

That soil looks dense- I'd repot into something much airier ASAP! ! Also, and this is just my opinion, when a plant is trying to acclimate, to a new environment, it seems like moving it in and out of the house every day might not be great. I'd pick one and stick with that for a while, I think.

I'd get her out of that soil into something way chunkier (potting soil + bark, perlite, coco chips). Also, take a look at her root ball. Despite lots of stems/leaves she might need a smaller pot to prevent soil becoming water logged. I have mine in a 3inch.

She is successfully repotted! I expect her to be pretty pissed the next few days. But yours looks much less leafy than mine, I’ve got a lot of new sprouts near the base. Should I prune some to encourage the growth? Also, do you have a trellis for yours to climb? I want mine to grow big and climb to her hearts desire!

I agree about repotting. Do not move it around. It is already stressed trying to acclimate to a new surrounding and if you add the stress of repotting (which it needs) it will need a stable environment

It may stress the plant but repotting asap is best otherwise you risk letting the roots stay soggy for too long. Stress and shock she can bounce back from, but rot is much harder to treat once it gets bad. I’d also suggest after you get the soil off the roots to spray it down with hydrogen peroxide to make sure there isn’t extra bacteria.

EVERYONE THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THE ADVICE!!!! I know I’m not supposed to have favorites but, she’s my favorite. I’ve wanted one for so long! I’ve also got a question for you all about getting her a trellis to climb, is she still too young for that? Should I not worry about that right now? I like wrapping wooden stakes in hemp and twine, and I saw a cute video on how to make one out of bamboo skewers. Just wondering if she’d benefit from this :) thank you all SO much!!!!

I’ll definitely put her in a smaller pot, and I do have a chunky soil mix that consists of potting soil, clay pebbles, perlite, coco husk chips, bark fines, etc. but as far as the actual pot goes- does it matter what kind of pot? Plastic, terracotta, etc?

Plastic is probably best, I know people like terracotta but it will wick away moisture from the soil quicker and with the chunky mix you have I don’t think it needs to drain any quicker, but that’s just my opinion. I think a chunky mix in plastic is a happy medium.

She is repotted! What do you recommend as far as a trellis / pole for her to climb? She’s got a lot of leaves near the base vs being more viney, I just don’t know how to train it quite yet as there are so many leaves on her & it’s not that long yet. But I was told you’re supposed to start training them young. Is she still too young? Any advice on this? Thanks so much!! You’re awesome 😊
