Iā€™m looking for some advice about my jade plant. When I got it a little over a year ago it already had some unhealthy leaves, but it has seemed to have gotten a lot worse since then. Quite a few of the leaves have shriveled and died. Iā€™m not sure if Iā€™ve been watering it too much, too little, or just inconsistently. I water it about every month when the soil is completely dry. It sits next to a window and gets a decent amount of light. I canā€™t figure out what Iā€™m doing wrong. Any suggestions on what might be causing this, or tips on how I can help it recover? (The picture on the left is what it looked like when I got it. The picture on the right is its current state.)

    It is probably gnats. I had the same problem with mine.

    It is too small now to be in that size pot. Check the roots; if good repot it in a smaller pot and water when dry. Donā€™t let it sit in water and wipe any sitting water off the leaves.

    Iā€™ve had the same issue with all of my jade plants. I canā€™t get it right so youā€™re not alone. I do have a variegated jade thatā€™s doing ā€œokā€ for now. I think I was underwatering. Iā€™ve started doing small amount of water more frequently and it seems to be working. Good luck!

    IMO itā€™s likely your soil/substrate, which look waaay too organic (soily) for a jade. Remove from current soil/pot, remove soil from roots gently. Repot using ~1/2 succulent soil, ~1/2 perlite in a much smaller pot, only a few inches bigger than its root ball. You should start to see positive changes in less than a month or so. Also remember with watering itā€™s not the amount of water as much as itā€™s the frequency of the watering that can cause problems, esp for succulents. When you do water you want it to be nearly bone dry so about once month (or a little more in summer/direct sun), soak her real good! Bottom water or pour over soil till it runs through, then pour a little more. Make sure it drains out completely so itā€™s not sitting in any water. Good luck!

      No problem! Meant to add that with succulents, unlike foliage plants, I tend to wait 3-5 days to water after repotting bc their root systems tend to be more shallow šŸ’¦
