Does this polka dot plant stand a chance at survival? I knew nothing about it when I got it, put it in this jar with some rocks and called it good. Obviously, not good! After research, I’ve switched out soil with a mix of tropical soil and perlite, pea gravel at the bottom and it sits outside my bathroom which is roughly 50-65% humidity most of the time. It’s in a jar because I repurposed a candle holder but I’m thinking maybe in the future this won’t work. This plant has been so dramatic 😭

In my experience, anything with solid green left can be saved. But at this point I'd assume roots are rotted. Remove all dead roots and growth, repot into new soil. Treat it like a propagation with close to full humidity until you see growth again then ween back into the climate it will live in.

I did recently change the soil and the roots looked okay (surprisingly) but I’ll definitely try that!! For treating it like a propagation, should I take it out of the jar until it comes back to life? A lot of my propagations also don’t make it, so I just wanna be sure I set it up correctly, I really like this little one

That's great! This plant does shed leaves like nothing else, apparently on purpose since plants recommends removing them regularly. So maybe it just needs babying for a bit. I personally put all my props in shallow dishes and spray them down good at least once a day but don't water the soil soggy. Don't let it dry out. Maybe even make some kind of humidity dome with a cup or cloche or something clear that will still let light in. Plants are so resilient the main issue with established plants is root rot so once it bounces back be sure to use a container with drainage holes and soil with lots of drainage (perlite, orchid bark, etc.) and only water when mostly dry. I'm not expert but I have one I've had to learn with.

Place it in a pot with drain holes. You can use the glass container as an outer pot. Just be sure there is no drainage water sitting in the glass jar that could rot the roots Give it more light.

I put mine outside and it’s doing amazing now. I’d suggest doing that

I honestly just ignore it and let it get watered when it rains or water if there hasn’t been rain in a while. It was doing bad when I had it inside but now it’s thriving outside my front yard! Also make sure it has proper drainage

Is it staying compact that way? I have mine under intense grow lights and it is still reaching for the sky like a weirdo and it lost most of its red color.
