Hi smart plant people! My dad has a question about his monstera, if anyone could help that would be lovely! : I cut off 3 leafs that had nodes and aerial roots and put in a pot with moss soaked in water. Been 1 week and now tips getting brown/yellow. Is there too much water in moss? Should it be damp and not soaked? Maybe roots need air too? Or just stress from recent cutting? I put rooting hormone on cuts too. Please let us know what you think!

They grow well in a container of clean water. You can watch the progress of the roots. I have never grown in wet moss for fear of rot from overly wet moss.

Rooting hormone powder is good to add as Lavender suggested. It will make the water cloudy. Change the water about once a week. Fertilize with diluted fertilizer when the roots emerge.

I recommend putting it in water first when you propagate monsteras and add a little root hormone so that way it has an easier time growing roots and things.

I propagated my monstera in just plain tap water. I didn’t use rooting hormone, which comes as a liquid in addition to the powder form. I keep the water clean and changed it once a week. The propagation all grew well and then were eventually planted in soil.
