My false aralia used to look like this. Pretty good. Now its leaves have turned a dark greenish brown and are crunchy. The soil was bone dry so I watered it but it isn’t getting better. I used to have it in bright sun but I heard that’s not good. So now it’s in shade with some sun. What’s wrong?

Crunchy is never a good sign. It may have gone without moisture for too long. It's hard to say whether it will come back. Tip it out of the pot and take a look at the roots. If they're mushy or dry trim off all of the bad parts and replant in an appropriately sized pot. Definitely keep it out of the direct sun.

You could also remove all the crunchy leaves and perhaps cut it back a little even though this is not the right time for cutting back it might be necessary in your situation. Again, the life expectancy of this plant is questionable.

Okay. I don’t think she’s gonna make it. 😭 It’s such a shame she was really pretty. I’ve heard they are super hard to care for so perhaps it isn’t all my fault. I feel bad. Her roots look good. And misting her a lot has made the leaves a bit less crunchy. Maybe there’s hope?

I don’t think they like a lot of light, make sure it’s in part shade
