I’m having a terrible fungus gnat problem and i just know the best to get rid of them is to change out all of my soil. this is what i get for trying to go cheap on my soil 😬 anybody have any recommendations on a soil mix or certain brands to make my own mixture at home that won’t cause fungus gnats?

fox farm ocean forest is the GOAT base imo. I use that and supplement with extra perlite, peat moss, orchid bark, and earth worm castings depending on the plant. you can also water with mosquito bits or dunks to treat the gnats — a better alternative to toxic systemic granules and such.

How have worm castings been going as a mix in? Any differences to the plants and growth?

Yes! Great slow & gentle fertilizer. You can mix it in or sprinkle it on top and water in

miracle grow piece meal supplements work well for me — i don’t use their bagged soil, but the additives are affordable and easy to get your hands on

I haven’t tried fox farm yet but want to at some point lol, but I have a cactus succulent soil that is Target’s brand that has been working well, and like eatyacarbs I supplement with perlite and orchid bark to add more aeration and drainage

Any brand of soil can get fungus gnats. You’ll need to address the root cause of the issue which is soil that is staying wet too long and not getting proper wet dry cycles. Fix it by 1. Adding soil amendments like perlite or small orchid bark to help with drainage 2. Decreasing water frequency 3. Increasing airflow 4. Increasing light Bonides systemic granules, mosquito bits, BTI drops, or beneficial nematodes will control the larval stage. Yellow sticky traps or zevo fly traps will catch the adults. GL
