My husband opened the window next to where my peace lily lives, and now it looks like this. It was exposed to the -20°F temps here in Wisconsin 😢 This plant means a lot to me because I was gifted it after my sister passed away. Is there hope for it? What do I do??? I’ve never exposed this plant to the cold before.

Oh no! 😥 I’m so sorry that happened. I would be so upset! The first thing to do would be to move it away from any cold drafts or spots for now. Keep it somewhere that’s room temperature without any drafts, but don’t put it by any kind of heater or vent (unless you have a deflector on it) as that will only make things worse. Cut off the worst/most damaged looking leaves with clean scissors as close to the base of the stem as possible. Try not to cut off more than 30% of the leaves at one time if you can help it. Continue to water normally and give it bright indirect light. You may have to continue cutting off some leaves over the next couple of weeks if they continue to decline, and it may look worse before it looks better. After 2-3 weeks, if you’re not seeing any improvement, it might be worth taking the plant out of its pot to check on the roots. In that case, if you see any roots that look dead, crispy, mushy, or rotten, cut them off with clean scissors. If all the roots are crispy, mushy, or rotten at that point, it unfortunately may not be salvageable anymore. However, if you have even a little bit of healthy roots, it can be saved!

Thank you… I know he didn’t mean any harm, but I am very sad and frustrated by this 😭 Thank you so much for all of the helpful advice. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment!

I mostly agree with Madison Suzanne said but I wouldn’t cut anything off just yet. Give it some time to recover before putting it through more trauma.

true, if none of the leaves look rotted or anything there may not be any need to cut them yet!

Okay thanks! I will leave it alone to avoid further stress.
