Hello! I got a Calathea picturata from the clearance section a couple weeks ago, and even though I’m keeping it in the same conditions as my other calathea (who is thriving) this one is doing really poorly and keeps losing leaves. Does anyone know what is wrong with it? It’s not getting direct sunlight and watered regularly. I also have it on a pebble tray to increase humidity and I even started misting it occasionally to see if that’s why it’s leaves were drying up. I’m also watering with Brita water, which my other Calathea likes

It could be just a change in environment from where you bought it to your home. Also do you mist with the Brita water? You obviously know they are sensitive to tap chemicals for watering but I think that sensitivity extends to water on the leaves also.

Anything from a clearance section is either overwatered or bone dry. I would guess this is overwatered. My suggestion is to remove from the pot and see what’s going on with the roots. It’s probably very wet. If there is no root rot, remove most of the soil and let it dry for a few hours. Then I would repot with a faster draining soil into a pot that fits the root ball. If the soil is looking good when you check it, then maybe it needs higher humidity than you can provide. One of my calatheas is having dry issues and it sits near two humidifiers running 24 hours a day. I’m not a plant expert but I do have some experience. Good luck. They are beautiful plants when you can get it right but they can be difficult plants.

def pop it out for a root check! Terracotta also dries out quicker, but sounds like you’re on top of it there
