Does anyone have any advice on getting rid of (what I believe to be) fungus gnats?

My mom has a monstera in the living room growing fantastic leaves but had a ton of fungus gnats. I found that the systemic insecticide granules and mosquito bits (both from Amazon) completely wiped them out. It’s been a week and I haven’t seen any flying around, none on the fresh sticky trap either.

Hello:) My favourite trick is mosquito dunks. You drop one puck in your watering can and you basically keep it consistently filled up. That’s what worked for me with over 200 plants. It took a few months but I’ve been gnats free for about 8months. When the puck starts to disintegrate, I know it’s time for a new one so no risk of moldy mosquito bits and no sifting compared to the mosquito bits that are often recommended.

This sounds so much easier than making the mosquito bit tea. Do you leave it in the watering can with water or empty?

I honestly always left it full since I don’t water once a week but a few plants everyday and I use tap so it gives time for chlorine to evaporate. But when I had less, I was filling up the night before and it had time to make the “tea”. That’s the option I found works best as I was afraid of risking them molding in my soil ☺️

I use beneficial insects that are natural predators of fungus gnat eggs/larvae. You do have to feed them if you want to maintain their population after you clear the infestation; it's super easy and means you don't have to worry about another infestation (of the same type)

I had absolutely no luck with the granules. I sprayed all of my plants with Neem and put in those little sticky traps. Then I poured a mixture of one part hydrogen peroxide to three parts water through the soil to make sure all the eggs were dead. That's very important. Then I put a very thin layer of sand on the top. The key is to not let the adults get back in to lay eggs. I also sprinkled some cinnamon on top of the sand. They don't like it. I had over 100 plants that were infected and this worked. When your infestation is gone remove the sand so the soil can breathe.
