I have a huge fungus gnat problem for the first time. I have sticky traps and just bought a mosquito dunk thing but a lot of my plants go a very long time between watering or are freshly watered before I bought it. Is it still effective if I’m only watering some of my plants with it or if it’s very staggered watering with it? Thanks so much for any help!

Water when it’s time and not too early to avoid rot.

Thanks for the answer! Will the mosquito dunks still be effective if it’s done that way?

I found dunks better for maintenance/prevention than for eradicating the gnats (too slow - allows plenty of time for gnats to repopulate). I used beneficial nematodes - from Amazon - and did several rounds of treatment. Took about 6-8 weeks of normal rotational waterings to get rid of my gnats along with the yellow sticky traps and dunks in between (if your plant needs more frequent watering, the dunks are ok to use between nematode treatments). Multi-pronged approach was the most effective. Hopefully that helps!

I used to have a big problem with gnats and the best thing that has worked for me is Bonide Systemic Houseplant Insect Control. I found it on Amazon but maybe a local store might have it! It’s granules you put on the top of the soil every 2 months. Completely cleared my gnat problem!

When I had a bad gnat problem, I used the beneficial nematodes and treated all my indoor plants, used the sticky traps, and changed the plant soil. Most importantly I changed my water regime and stopped over watering. Gnats are gone now.

Bottom water only. Since I’ve been doing this I haven’t seen any gnats. Trust the process. They will go away.
