Hi, I bought this plant I believe its Called Alocasia Regal Sheild, as soon as i got it home i live in a studio so i placed it near the window I realized it got direct sunlight for a few hours and the small leaf got burnt(1st pic) now i can see some minor burns again(2nd and 3rd pic) but i have places it like a 1 feet away from the window. Any tips on this one or any care tips in general of how to make it healthy and big.

no pressure to do what i do, it works for me and where i live (midwestern US). my alocasia is in a self watering pot with a water level indicator, under a grow light, and has a humidifier in the same room. i am starting to rotate her more frequently because i’ve noticed she’s more susceptible to burns under the grow light than my other plants. i used 1/2 regular potting soil with extra perlite and 1/2 orchid bark in the snug pot.

Alocasias are known to drop leaves at the slightest inconvenience (repotting, overall stress). So if this occurs, don’t just toss it!

Thank you so much, i think too much light is something they dont like for sure i am thinking to bring some plant food for the soil that can be used in mutilple plants and saves me $. What about watering i have heard that watering from under the pot works really well. The weather in England really fluctuates a lot one day is super sunny kind of hot and the others its dark and gloomy with dropping temperatures. Also i dont have a humidifier as of yet should i spray water around or on leafs twice a week according to this app?

The constant water reservoir also helps them stay damp so you don’t have to worry about it drying out. There are some “superstitions” over spraying with water because it is a rapid increase in humidity for a short period of time, then decreases. Some people say you’re better off doing nothing, but I personally haven’t seen any long-term negative effects from it. Before I got the humidifier I sprayed every other day or so. Putting them in a “terrarium” or “dome” like setting also rapidly increases heat and humidity. I probably wouldn’t keep them at 100% with an enclosure, but about 70%. This is my azlanii with her new leaf since being in the self-watering pot

Also ignore that lil dying leaf😭 It got chopped because the new one was too big it covered it from receiving light. If you want to manage the gloomy weather (I totally get it), I have mine under a Sansi grow light.
