Question about Philippe here. He’s had thrips. They were bad. I’ve sprayed him thrice now in the last week and have seen no new signs. I’m hoping he’s cured, but I’m absolutely ready to keep treating him every week for like…the rest of his life if necessary! My question is: Considering the damage to his leaves, would it be more feasible to chop him, repot, and start over? Or are his leaves still able to photosynthesize and nourish him until he grows new ones? He has more leaves than this but these are the two most damaged. I’m kind of guessing I should cut the old leaves as new ones grow? Advice appreciated. He’s my first Selloum and I’ve been dying for one of these for years! I acquired him about 2 years ago and I’m reluctant to bring him back to square one.

Unfortunately, since thrips lay eggs inside the leaf tissue (where the sprays can’t hurt them), it can take more than a week before the next insects are visible! I’d keep going with the treatments for a while.

I’m okay with that. I have a few others to treat as well, but it seems to be working. Do you have a recommendation on how often to treat?

Ummm I’ve seen sources say every 6-7 days but I don’t have a ton of experience myself. I’ve done it farther apart than that and it was fine, but I also didn’t have the worst infestation so that could be why.

Personally I'd treat with a systemic, not just a spray. If he has a lot of leaves I'd chop the worst looking few, to try and help with the infestation.

What’s a systemic? He doesn’t have many leaves unfortunately. 😕

A systemic gets soaked into the plant. So that ot kills the bugs when they try to munch on it. Bonide systemic granules you sprinkle in the soil and water over or SNS 209 is a liquid you water with. The 209 is pet/kid safe.

Good luck if you’re Canadian though

Why Canada??? So basically release the nematodes and green lacewings is what you're saying?

Keep spraying, he’ll make it. Until they turn yellow or brown I would keep them as they are.
