Does anyone know my Chinese money plant has started dying? It was doing great for months after I got it and grew little tiny plants next to it and everything. About 2 weeks ago it lost its oldest leaf and now it looses maybe 1 leaf a day. THis is my second Chinese money plant and I really don’t want it to die.

👋 Plant Newbie here! Sorry, I don’t have much to offer you. I just purchased this plant over the weekend and would like to see how the community replies. Mine is currently positioned under a grow light, how about yours? 🪴

They’re very sensitive to temperature changes so if you have it by a cold window it may be the issue. I just had to move mine a couple feet away since the temperatures dropped

Mine is maybe 10-12 ft away from a window but has a grow light to give it extra light

Sometimes mine drops leafs too, mostly in the fall and winter. It is normal if it’s dropping from the bottom and still producing at the top.

Also be careful with a grow light, they are very sensitive to light and can burn very easy.

This sounds like mine! It has also been dropping leaves from various stems. It is next to a window and our temperatures just dropped, I’ll try moving it back a bit

Presuming you have checked for pests on the stems and under its leaves?

Yes, I haven’t ever really had a problem with my plant even when some of my other plants got infested with gnats (thankfully gone now). Although i still do the occasional pest treatment every month or so

Hey I don’t know if your plant is doing okay now. But that happened to me and I checked the root and it got root rot. I recommend getting some hydrogen peroxide 3%. Mixing 3:1 ratio water and hp. But I would wait for the soil to dry out 1/2 way before doing that.

I would also thinking of taking it out to check the roots as well. Give it new soil and such.

I was gifted a Chinese money plant. It is in a violet pot. It's growing tall. Leggy. What and how should I repot it. I'm in Minnesota and it's December.

I would probably repot it into a plastic nursery pot (if you can clear). It just gives the plant more drainage with takes away some of the legginess and leaf loss. Then you can just place the pot into the vase. This method will also help you when you repot later. I also recommend moving the plant a little closer to light. I have mine under a grow light becuase with the changing seasons light varies. I hope this helps!!!

This recently happened to my plant which is about the same size and health as yours. I think I read that it’s either natural, or it needs a mineral/salts flush watering, or to check that it needs repotting

Thank you! Ill look into to the mineral/salt flush now. I recently repotted it around 6 months ago so I think we can rule that out.

Mine hates bright light as I nearly killed it after a few weeks of being on the sunny window-ledge.. then I read they are usually beneath a tree canopy so only get dappled light. So far it’s ok now but I’ve only had it for about 6 months (had one pup plant from it that I’ve potted)
