What’s causing my Peperomia’s leaves to split? The new growth is also looking deformed. I use Planta as a guideline for watering and use the skewer trick to make sure it needs water. It’s placed a couple feet from a south facing window so it’s possibly getting too much light? But never direct sunlight. Any insight is appreciated.

Do you mist? The app recommends I do frequently with this one

I do not mist. I didn’t even consider humidity could be the cause. You’re right that it could be the problem!

It’s not a pepperomia it’s a baby rubber plant! I have one and it grows by leaps and bounds with thick, shiny leaves, and looks just like your picture. I’m not sure why your leaves are splitting. I’m sure someone else can help you on that, but at least you know how it’s not a pepperomia. 😉 PS I just included a picture of mine to help you out.

Mine sits on a windowsill in the kitchen with a good part of the day in full sunlight.

Yours is gorgeous! The tag on mine says it’s a Peperomia Obtusifolia but we all know the garden center tags are only right 50% of the time. 😁

That’s hilarious! I thought Planta was the only one that got it wrong half the time… Maybe I shouldn’t say that… I love you Planta.😘

Peperomia obtusifolia is the same thing as a baby rubber plant

I think it might be a combo of a little too much sun and not enough humidity, though it might also be craving some nutrients like boron

Baby rubber plants like part sun/part shade so if yours is getting full sun in a south facing window, I would also say it’s definitely getting too much sun. I was just researching them, and found that the varietal name is “Sweet and Sour.” Cool, huh?! 🤗

Rubber plants and baby rubber plants are totally different plants. The larger are ficus and the baby is peperomia. Personally, I don’t think the baby rubber plant looks like a rubber plant at all. I never got that nickname. Do you feed your little peperomia? Could it just need a little nourishment? I don’t mist mine and my humidity is around 40% and it does fine. They like to stay moist so don’t let it totally dry out. Good luck! I love my peperomia. They are a favorite of mine!
