i recently brought home an alocasia frydek that initially was thriving, but after i returned from a week-long trip, i found the soil had dried up and several leaves were drooping and yellowing. it seems it hasn’t quite got the grit my other plants do 😅 it’s been a day since i watered it, but they’re still drooping. from other’s experience, will it drop those leaves or will it eventually perk back up?

My Alocasia experience was once it started dropping leaves, it didn’t stop. One by one I lost leaves until it was bare. I don’t think it will regrow as it has been over two weeks and nothing 🥲

Same thing happened to me! I harvested the corns and propagated them :) All the corms have survived so far. This picture is from this morning - 2.5 months later! She popped out her first leaf 🤧

Okay I have questions, as a fellow corm-lover lol 😂 Did you fully prop these in leca from day 1 or were these transferred in once roots established? Also, if they’ve always been in leca, did you initially keep the jar sealed/covered then open it up once they started sprouting, or has it always been open-air? Sorry for the interrogation! Your corm progress is stunning and I’m always trying to learn other people’s tips and tricks!

Alocasia are VERY sensitive when it comes to watering - they NEVER want to dry out. You can have good success growing them semi-hydro!

Honestly it probably wasn’t your fault the stores sell them when they are in the process of going dormant. Don’t get rid of the main plant it will come back after it dies off. Recommend using a humidity dome after the last leaf dies.

so what i’m hearing is that there’s hope! 2 of the leaves are still perky and green, so even if the rest don’t make a recovery, all is not lost 🤞🏼

For my alocasias, once a leaf starts to droop, it’s guaranteed to be dropped. However, when put back on a good watering schedule, the plant will grow new leaves.
