Was it close to a grow light or in direct sun? It looks like just the white part of the leaf so it could be from a burn maybe?

I don’t have this one under a grow light. It’s about 5 feet away from a window and gets very indirect light. Do you think it needs more light? My monstera deliciosa is doing great with very similar light conditions The Thai that’s browning is in soil is very “chunky” with bits of bark in it as well as perlite (potted at the nursery) so it’s difficult to tell when the soil is dry.

Hi 👋 It’s bc of the variegation that this baby will require more light than your deliciosa. Since it has less green leaves to photosynthesize with and provide nutrients to the plant, you’ll need it to be as bright as possible (and away from drafts/AC/heat vent). Think south or west facing window and not 5 ft away. Good luck!

Planta AI once said that when there is a yellow line between the brown on the edge and the green of the leaf that it is from being too dry in between watering. And then it literally contradicted itself when I sent the same exact situation in a photo and it said it was probably too much water! I’ve also had to say too close to the grow light, and too far from the grow light all in one consultation. 🙄 It’s so frustrating but it’s usually one of those things and sometimes it’s very hard to tell what the causes exactly. I know I sound like a broken record, but I like to use moisture indicator sticks because I don’t have to poke my finger in the plants every day to see how dry they are and they’ve been very reliable. 🍀 good luck!

Oh! What the first person said about maybe the white part burning… that’s smart.

This is a common issue with highly variegated plants. Usually happens after a stress situation. Could be something very mild such as moving to new location. At least that’s the theories I’ve read. Silica supplement will help avoid this. It strengthens your plant’s cell walls. I use it and it does seem to help greatly.

Sometimes those white parts just dry out fast. Using a humidifier near the plant would help in addition to the above mentioned
