I recently got this olive tree in the mail. I was worried because it had been in transit for so long but it looked OK when I got it. I repotted it and put it in its new home and now all the leaves are drying up and falling off. Is that normal for olive trees in winter?

Is the rootball as big as that pot? Or 2” less? Pot looks big. Is it chunky soil? Pot has drainage holes? Transplanting also causes shock, plus the long travel. May need to give it time.

Thanks. It's about 2" bigger. I was going to wait on repotting but the soil was so soaked when it got here that I was worried about root rot. Soil is a mix of soil, perlite, worm castings and blood meal. Pot has drainage. You can see from the picture that almost all the leaves have fallen off and the ones that haven't are completely dry. Anything I should do while I'm waiting to see if it makes it?

From what I’ve read, they need FULL, direct sun. For at least 6 hours. Which is something we aren’t used to. So I guess I’d research and see if a grow light works for this. Dropping leaves is a symptom of not enough sun. PS, I was in Italy 3 years ago and seeing olive trees EVERYWHERE was amazing and beautiful! ❤️

I would say shock and how dry a house can be would cause the leaves to fall off like that. Give it time to adjust and monitor. It’s watering very closely.
