Hey guys! I need help! My ginseng ficus, bonsai tree (I think that’s what it is) is dying, there is a before and after photo. The leaves were dusty so I rinsed them under some soft water and then the leaves started all turning brown shortly after. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it back to healthy? I’m so sad.

What do you mean by soft water? Is that your tap water which you have treated for hardness? If so the chemicals used to soften the water may have reacted to the leaves. Some softeners use a sodium base. I am not sure of this kind of plant but maybe the leaves don’t like to be wet. Did you dry them off after cleaning? Sorry I can’t be of more help.

what you can do in the future is get a leaf cleaning solution, a leaf shine solution, or dilute neem oil! spray it on the leaves and use a soft cloth to wipe it off. this removes dust, and can help prevent pests as well!

No I just meant a gentle stream, I don’t have a softener but I do have a filter under my kitchen sink.

Looks like chronic sun burn, was it in sun after you rinsed them? This happens with lawns too.

No, it was evening when I rinsed them maybe 7pm, they don’t get sun until about 10-11am.

Mine is in n south window and doing well. I do notice it needs more water than any of my plants, but I put in a bowl of water, then let it drain out. Is there drainage in your pot?

Thanks for your response! Yes, the out had drainage. I’ve removed all of the leaves and am hoping for it to revive.

I would take off all dead leaves and make sure you aren’t watering it to much or to little I don’t have much experience though 😅
