PS I HATE those sticky yellow butterflies that catch fungus gnats. I put them in my 30 odd plants the other night and between my getting stuck with sticky butterflies on my shirt, my pants, my sleeves, my hands, etc. and on my husband, too, I could’ve won the big prize on America’s Funniest Home Videos. We won’t count the number of swearwords I said, and the hysterical gesticulations and the killer faces. Even my dog ran from me. Do see the above video! šŸ˜‰

Ditto, ditto, ditto!!! As they get stuck to me, I throw them away and curse. What I can’t deal with is the tender bits of leaves ripped off as I’ve tried to disconnect them from one of my babies. Out they go! I’ll use peroxide and mosquito dunks; that’ll do the fungus gnats in! 🤭

Lynda has the right idea. I water my plants consistently with one part HP and 4-5 parts filtered water and I have very few gnats, if any. Mosquito bits are great too. I make a tea with them and water the plants with that. I have long hair so I would very often wind up with three or four of those damn things tangled in my hair. One time I slept with one I didn’t know was there. That was a fine mess in the morning. I still sometimes use the yellow traps but I buy the sheets and cut them small and just lay a piece on top of the soil. If there’s gnats I’ll see where they are and can target treatment. And no ugly yellow butterflies all over the house and in my hair.

Well said! Thanks for being so specific; that’s very helpful for others reading these posts. šŸ¤—

I like to use the bigger donuts called Mosquito Dunks vs. bits so that they don’t get in the soil. I put them in my pitcher of water and let it sit for 10 minutes (with some drops of Superthrive. I break them in half or quarters depending on how much water I put in my pitcher. I don’t have any issues with fungus gnats as a long as I use them. And it’s almost gnat season 😬

Also, moving to soilless potting mix has helped a ton. I use Molly’s mix. I had to migrate all my plants gradually because it’s not cheap. But it was well worth it!!! My plants thrive in it!

That’s a great idea with the dunks!

Finally found some Mosquito Dunks at Fred Meyer’s. I looked at Home Depot, another Fred Meyer’s and Wilco and they didn’t have any. Maybe it’s just too early in the season??? For a half gallon of water with plant food, super thrive and hydrogen peroxide, and etc., how much of the mosquito dunks would you crumble into it?šŸ¤”
