Iā€™m worried about the little guy. His stem is turning brown at the twist and itā€™s thinner than the rest of the plant. The leaves also look dry, even though I gave him a lot of water (when I first put him in the pot and the next day because he looked dry in the leaves) Heā€™s in an eastern facing window, I put him on the sill so he could get as much light as possible. That seemed to perk him up the other day but now heā€™s starting to droop at the brown part of the stem Is there something I should do? Or anything I can do for him? I donā€™t want to lose him

    It looks like root rot to me. Check the roots, and if they are rotten and brown then cut off the dead part. I hope this helps. ā¤ļø

      Thank you, I will. Iā€™m hoping heā€™s still savable, Iā€™ve never been able to grow a sunflower

      Yeah, sunflowers are my absolute favorite! If you do have to cut the roots, make sure you cut a bit higher than the root rot (to make sure you get all of the rot off). Your plant will go into a little bit of a shock but it should be ok after that!

    Thatā€™s a very large pot for such a wee plant. I usually pot up seedlings or cuttings in small clear cups with holes until their roots fill out more.

      Thank you for telling me. This is honestly the smallest pot I had, though I might try putting DIYing or recycling something

    I get mine at the dollar store. I think theyā€™re disposable shot glassesā€¦. lol

      I put holes in them with an old wood burning tool. You do need holes for drainag

      Thank you for the tip. I found some paper cups I saved to recycle, would they work? (Iā€™ve used other cups, same brand, for holding paint water, and theyā€™ve held up good) They seem like an okay size for a baby plant, and I can easy poke some holes in the bottom (pic for scale)

    Iā€™m not sure if the paper would stand up to the watering but you could give it a go. Iā€™ve also put holes in the plastic ones with big nails, bbq skewers and carton cutter.

      Thanks, Iā€™m hoping it holds up. When I used them for just water, they lasted a while before the bottom started to weaken. Iā€™ll post an update when my next seeds are planted for a while. Thanks again for all the help
