Need help saving my dragon scale alocasia! It has mealy bugs so I’ve been treating it by dipping a q-tip into rubbing alcohol and dabbing onto the infected parts I see, but I can’t seem to ever get rid of them fully. A couple of leaves are also dying and I don’t know if it’s because of the bugs or the treatment I’ve been doing. I had a baby leaf coming but I treated it with some rubbing alcohol yesterday because I saw mealy bugs on it, but today it was going yellow and looked very limp so I just took it off the plant.

I had mealy bugs on my regal shield and did a few rounds of insecticidal soap. That seemed to do the trick! I’ve heard alcohol, especially undiluted, can cause damage to leaves, so I generally try to avoid it there specifically. Make sure you spray the stems and even in cataphylls. I found some hanging out in the tiny space after a leaf unfurled on my variegated frydek and did a round of the soap on that too. No problems since!

What brand of soap did you use?
