Last year I had a lot of issues with fungus gnats, and from watering less often over winter and using mosquito bits and lots of other things I was able to control it a bit better. I’m worried about it coming back now I’ve just repotted some of them which is when I’ve found it gets bad each year while the plant is adjusting to a larger space. I have noticed that when my plants are in ceramic plant pots (in their plastic planters), they don’t dry out for weeks even in the sun, even the ones I haven’t changed the pot size with. Have other people had a similar issue and do you recommend leaving them out of the ceramic pots. Might sound like a non-issue but I don’t water the plants until I feel they have dried out a little bit (depending on plant), but plants I know like to be watered regularly are still damp on the top layer so I don’t want to water too much!

Keep using the mosquito bits. I use them year round. I use the mosquito dunks and just put in my watering can, let sit for at least 24 hours and keep refilling my watering jug. One dunk lasts about a month. It’s been over a year of doing this with 101 plants…. Never see a gnat since I started. I’ve got mine planted in all kinds of pots some directly in a ceramic pot… with drainage!

My Mom uses the mosquito bits and I think she likes them. I switched most of mine to some for of unpainted terracotta and put those bright yellow sticky gnat traps in them. It’s helped a ton. I was also noticing some of my porcelain potted plants were not doing the best without the extra aeration is another reason of moving them over to terracotta.
