I bought this monsters plant today at Walmart I live in East Tennessee and want to help him out. He’s got some broken leaves and some roots growing out of the stems; but there’s new growth towards the bottom so I’m not sure what to do with the roots. Any tips or advice would be appreciated 🤗 I’m not very familiar with this plant.

Hi Hannah! aerial roots are a normal part of a healthy monstera. they want to climb so they send those out for support. if you had a sphagnum moss pole it would send those roots into that. it looks like you’ve got 3 maybe 4 plants in there — i would thin them out so they’re not competing, but that’s personal preference (I keep mine as a singular stem up a moss pole)

additionally, those small leaves at the bottom are the oldest leaves, not new growth. new leaves come out of the last new leaf. here’s a photo example on mine

I don’t have a pole for mine. I know it is not ideal, but I just guide the aerial roots into the soil. He is growing wild and crazy!!
