My mom’s two hydrangeas aren’t looking too hot… are they fully out of commission or can I save them?

The moon right now is pulling water up, instead of down toward the roots. If you transplanted it recently that is why it’s struggling to get hydrated. Definitely water it slowly and give it some mulch to keep it moist.

When were they planted? And what are the conditions, type of soil, sun or shade...

Mmm planted about a month ago. First one is full sun, 2nd is part shade I think we used normal potting soil from Sam’s club

This looks like frost damage. Have you had some cold weather?. If it is Frost damage, it will be fine. Trim the plant evenly all around but not too hard. Apply some root stimulator (not rooting hormone) a couple times over the next 2 months or even more if you wish. When you water give it regular water to get the area moist deep to the roots and then apply some root stimulator come on maybe a quart to a half gallon each. Don't overdo the watering. You don't want it to be dry but if you over water you will flush out the root stimulator. Depending on the weather in your area I would only water deeply once a week maybe twice a week if it's hot. Do this for about 4 to 6 weeks then only water if it hasn't rained in 2 weeks or so. Is the shrubs develop a root system you shouldn't have to water at all except during a drought.

They can for sure be saved! Just make sure yall water really well over the next few weeks. Like when you water make sure to stand there with the hose for like 20 seconds and let it soak in. They may take a bit to look “pretty” again, but they’ll live!
