Has anyone heard that using small rocks on top of your soil will help keep fungus gnats from laying their eggs in your soil?

I use fungus gnat topper, which contains diatomaceous earth, if this is what you mean by small rocks, unless you mean stones, I find it works but there are a few different brands out there , some cause a tiny amount of fungus on top if staying wet to long underneath , I use bloom and bud pink packet, and goes dark when watering, after a few days drys out and goes light again, which gives a sign that top layer of soil has dried out then normally a couple days or so after Planta tells me to water, I had one plant I didn’t use it on and had a load of baby fungus gnats, I put on a small layer now don’t see any, it’s designed to dry them out trying to get out or into soil, there’s always a chance some get through so use sticky trays in or pots
0件のいいねto combat fungus gnats, I use a combo of sticky traps all over the pot to catch the flying adults, and then I use mosquito dunks to make a sort of "tea" I use to water the affected plants with. Mosquito dunks are made out of BTI, a bacteria that preys on mosquito (and fungus gnat!) larvae. I water with the mosquito dunk tea for a few weeks and by then there are no more babies to replace the adults. (I also placed a bunch of those Zeevo traps all over my house to help catch the adults that stray from the houseplant– cut down on how many they all were significantly)

いいね 1件I had a really bad outbreak in one plant about a month ago. I used the sticky traps and also added a very fine layer of potting grit on the top of the soil (just a very light layer, but enough that the surface of the soil is completely covered, and it's definitely done the trick. Only been about two gnats on the trap since the day I added the grit, whereas before I was getting about 50 a day.
いいね 1件What kind of grit are you using?
