Anyone know why my gladiolus is already wilting at the bottom by the time the top is blooming? I’m new to all this as I finally have my own yard for the first time. I’m in NC - hardiness zone 8a if that matters

Because the bottom starts blooming first, so it will start wilting first unfortunately.

The flowers only bloom for a few days and die off starting from the bottom. The stem stem itself will fade off as well and leave jsut the greenery behind once the flowers are done

OK so it’s normal for them to only last a few days! Thanks! I tried googling how long before they wilt but all the results were about cut flowers or planting to bloom timeframe.

Stella de Oro day lilies are long blooming. Their blooms last about three days. But, they are always putting out new blooms. The blooming can last most of the summer with consistent watering and deadheading (cutting the dead flowers and the pod behind them). They are only 12 inches in height. So, they are good for edging against a walkway.

It is a little unfortunate but gladiolus flowers are super stunning when they are bloomed their colors are so rich but I can understand wanting a longer lasting plant
