Hi! My mom just gave me this plant and it is not happy! It has brown leaves that I am planning on trimming. Any other tips for this Dracaena?

You don’t necessarily have to do this, but if it were me, I’d consider taking the plant out of its pot to check on the roots. I like to wait to do it until it’s time to water the plant because watering it first makes taking it out of the pot less stressful. You can then see if any roots look dead/crispy or if there’s any mushy root rot. Trim off any dead/crispy/rotting/mushy roots, wait 30-60 minutes so they can callous over before going back into wet soil before repotting. I’d also make sure that the pot is no bigger than 1-2 inches larger than the root ball itself because dracaenas can be super prone to overwatering. Make sure it’s in chunky well draining soil, give lots of light, and only water when the soil is 100% dry. Congrats on your new plant! It’s so satisfying to rehab them.
