Welp, there goes 6 years of being a pest-resistant superstar 😭😭 My parlor palm has thrips. I hosed her down to bare root yesterday, drenched the leaves in Dead Bug brew, and removed all the leaves with evident damage. Now what? Would LOVE some opinions on how to try to save her. Diatomaceous earth? Bag it for high humidity? New soil and systemic? Chop and re-root in water? Thank you, friends!!!

New soil is a good idea, since thrips live in the soil as well as on the leaves. I haven’t tried systemics yet but that would work too. Or add hydrogen peroxide to your plant water. Keep applying pest treatment to the leaves for a while, even if you don’t see thrips since they can be microscopic.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Thrips SUCK. !!! If you mist her & bag her in clear plastic for about a week, that should kill any remaining thrips. Also helps with iso from other plants. Apparently thrips don’t survive 100% humidity. Inflating the bag with your breath will give her some CO2 to live on, and help keep the plastic off her leaves. I had to do this recently. I put the pot in a bowl, and a trellis in the pot, to keep the plastic from touching the plant. The plants actually came out with new growth! And with no soil you don’t have to worry about it getting moldy. 👍

Oh! And water with beneficial nematodes. They also knock out fungus gnats. I LOVE them for that.
