Help!! I can’t figure out why my adansonii is unhappy! The only thing I can think is that it’s outgrown its pot and I need to give it more soil in a bigger pot, but I’m unsure (and need to buy a bigger pot if that’s the case). There are no signs of pests that I can see.

Have you checked the roots? Are they white or brown and mushy?

Not yet. Thinking it may be root rot?

I dealt with it fairly recently with my esqueleto and it was doing the same thing so it’s worth a check

The roots appear to be healthy

Generally yellowing leaves means overwatering, however if it’s not that and roots look good and assuming it’s getting plenty of light.. I’ve heard of them getting a bit unhappy if they don’t have correct support. If all else checks out maybe it’s that?

That could very well be it. There are several different stalks and some of them recently became floppy. Last night, after checking the roots, I decided to split the stalks into 2 different pots, and I’m hoping they feel more supported now. I may need to upgrade to some moss poles if the bamboo sticks I currently have aren’t enough.

Honestly in the most polite way possible, you may be better off. The little bamboo sticks sold to support plants really don’t do much but get in the way unfortunately. However you don’t HAVE to use a moss pole either. I’m personally not a fan as they’re more hassle than they’re worth. I use these coco poles atm. They’re working well and were pretty cheap, plus minimal upkeep. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Coco poles? I think I’ve seen those. Where can I get them? Anywhere? Amazon? Walmart? šŸ˜…

Yeah I’m in Australia they’re probably called something different where you live though, here’s a picture.

I’ve found this to be helpful. How often are you watering? That looks like overwatering, if you’re following the Planta schedule STOP. Check the soil with a chopstick to check moisture levels.

I check the soil with my finger, but maybe I’m not going deep enough or waiting for the soil to be dry enough!

I recommend the chopsticks- my fingers don’t get unnecessarily dirty and I’m able to get much deeper, especially for the plants that prefer to dry all the way out. Good luck! 🪓
