Can someone tell me what might be going on with my Chinese evergreen? The roots are fine and it hasn’t been repotted. Whenever I water it doesn’t perk back up….

The soil looks a bit too dense and damp, I’d lean towards something fungal

Yeah from what you have said about the soil composition and also seeing a picture of the roots. It’s definitely fungal, leaning towards root rot. Possibly from the substrate it was in before you repotted with the good stuff. I’d try to chop off the rot, soak it in 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and water and then prop it to grow new roots 😬

Does the water quickly drain from the soil or just sit there and seem unaffected? It could be the soil is the problem šŸ¤” would you happen to know when it was last repotted, and what type or brand of soil it was potted in?

It quickly drains, I repotted a few months ago! In the fox farm soil, mises with perlite and coco coir

That’s really strange, then. And the roots are light in color and firm? Not dark or mushy? Hmm. If it’s getting enough light and humidity, then it’s possible it’s something fungal.

Yes they are light and firm. Even pushing out a new leaf

I would try to check for fungal, then. There’s quite a few different ones, so perhaps try narrowing it down by researching ā€œcommon fungal infections for aglaonemaā€. In the meantime, isolate it from your other plants and don’t use the same tools for other plants that you use with this plant until you can rule out that it isn’t something fungal that can spread

You got healthy roots and some that are waterlogged. From inconsistent watering, it happens and I would probably do a hydrogen peroxide treatment to the roots.

If you feel the soil and it’s abit slimey, could be root rot, I’d say re pot but clean well.
