I just noticed this weird scale looking stuff all over my aloe Vera! I’ve read that it could be rust or beetles.. HELP!
Is it scales?
0 J'aimeLooks like scale (insects). You can rub the leaf with a q-tip with isopropyl alcohol where you see the infestation. Might have to repeat every week for a while
2 J'aimeDo I need to cut off the infected leaves?
0 J'aimeNope! Doing that won’t get rid of the scale. The bugs are teeny so they’re probably all over the plant even if you can’t see them
0 J'aimeOkay, I’m gonna give it a shot! Thank you so much! I’m new here and I’m attempting to turn my house into a jungle, so I panic when I see any of my babies struggling! Lol
1 j'aimeHappy to help :)
0 J'aimeDilute 70% isopropyl alcohol with water at a 50:50 ratio and wash both sides of the leaves with the solution. Let is know how it hoes!
1 j'aimeSo, my tendency is to align with the “more is better” line of reasoning. I actually poured a small stream of alcohol directly down the leaves. Sooo, have I just murdered my aloe?
0 J'aimeJust try to wash it as good as you can. Mine recently stuffed a terrible fall and it’s bouncing back. They are tough if you get them in the right conditions.
0 J'aimeDoes the bottle say it’s 70% alcohol? It should be okay but I would rinse the leaves in the shower, then blot to dry the leaves with a cloth / paper towel
0 J'aimeI’m not sure, I’m not home right now. But I’ll check when I get there and I’ll rinse it well!
0 J'aimeSounds good, hopefully it’ll be okay. I would rinse the soil as well and let it drain thoroughly, in case any of the alcohol got in the soil
0 J'aimeThanks so much guys!! I’ll keep you posted!
