Why does my polka dot plant look like a**? The polka dot pattern is barely visible and the leaves are gross.

They have their issues! They need regular trimming or they will get leggy. As you discovered. They also need very high humidity, or the leaves will dry up and fall off. And……the soil needs to stay evenly moist. Many plant stores sell them as terrarium plants. I’ve had a couple but the maintenance was more than I wanted to deal with.
1 j'aimeYeah maybe the humidity is the real Issue. I really feel like I keep the soil moist to the degree that I worry I’m over watering. The crispy edges are such a drag. So temperamental.
0 J'aimeI just trimmed the heck out of mine and it’s taking off! I trimmed all the long ones and the ones underneath are spreading out. I did my other one after that because I was so happy with it.
1 j'aimeSo you’re saying “be patient after a thorough prune”?
0 J'aimeSo this is after 3 days. You can see a lot of my cuts. All of the long ones. It had some smaller leaves under all of the long ones. Those took off after cutting the long ones. Just in 3 days. I have it in a cabinet in front of a window. (You can see the blinds) but I also have grow lights and a fan in the cabinet.
2 J'aimeTrim frequently, they love frequent haircuts. And this is one plant I agree (the app) it needs misting. For many others, I am against misting, because it can lead to bacterial or fungal issues. Just my personal understanding and two cents. Happy growing Luke. Give it a moment to bounce back, you got this.
