I bought a pepperspot peperomia yesterday. It is still in its original nursery pot. This morning I noticed a weed growing in the pot with it. I pulled out the weed but it was a very stubborn one and a tiny bit of the plant was damaged as it lost a few leaves and stems. I was afraid the weed would kill the plant eventually so I thought pulling it out would be the best thing to do even a bit of the plant was hurt in the process. Is there anything I should do to treat it? I will keep watching for the weed to resurface in case I didn’t get it all.

Maybe you could try getting a pair of tweezers to pull the weed out 🤔. I haven’t experienced that with a plant at Ott’s yet. If the tweezers don’t work, perhaps just snip some of it off and hope it dies off so you can pluck it out later once it’s dried up. I’ve had the occasional stowaway clover or mystery plant grow in the soil of some plants from other nurseries and box stores. They were never harmful, but I’ve also never had difficulty with getting them out. I’d just monitor for now and if another weed pops up, take a photo of it and attach it in the comments and I’ll try to identify it for you or see what you can do to get it out of there. Hope this helps.

Here’s a picture of the weed. It had really long and stubborn roots. I really had to tug to get it out, and some soil went flying lol. It’s a reminder to me to check plants more carefully before purchasing. This one was a quick impulse buy so I didn’t give it a thorough check. Also, I am trying to propagate from the piece that fell off of the pepperspot. I haven’t done this before and the thought it was a good way to try it. Your advice is so helpful. Thank you!

Oh wow. Well it looks like you got all of it out. You could try just laying the piece that broke off onto the top of the plant and see if it roots on its own, especially if the soil is still moist from being recently watered at Ott’s. I know folks do that with their string of turtles.

Good idea! I’ll give that a try. I am adding a picture of the raindrop Peperomia I bought yesterday. I think it will end up being my favorite plant. It’s incredibly full and gorgeous.

Wow! I love it! 🥰 What a great find! Hope you find that Peperomia Caperata Cayenne next week! This is the string of turtles I got from them recently. I gently repotted it into a new pot and haven’t seen any signs of shock, thankfully. Added the rooting powder to the exposed roots to lower the chance of it. I’d still wait off on repotting yours for a few weeks to let them acclimate to the changes in their environment.

This is a burbella I couldn’t manage to leave without either 😗 (in my defense, I’ve been hunting for a Burbella for months)
