I was wondering if anyone had some good tips on Calathea, I feel like I’m failing with them. I’ve lost one from mealies and I think another one of mine is dying too. I know they like humidity and not to be dry but what else can I do? Let me know!

Use distilled, filtered, rain, or treated water. I use api tap water conditioner. Just a couple drops per gallon. My Calathea has loved it. I water when my bamboo stick is mostly dry and just the tip of the stick is slightly still moist. Make sure it’s in a nice chunky soil mix.

Hang in there, they’re tough! I cut mine down last summer because I thought it was dead and it grew back. I’ve tried everything and it still has brown tips. I wish I could help you but I can’t seem to figure it out either!

I’ve found most of my plant problems are light related. Sometimes it shows itself as a watering problem, but in reality it’s not using a normal amount of water due to lack of light. Humans eyes are designed to adjust to varying light conditions, so we are pretty poor judges of ā€œlow lightā€ vs. no light. I have a ~12x12 room with a large south facing window and a west facing sliding glass door. It always seems SUPER bright, but if I put a plant in the northeast corner it will only get about 30 footcandles which is not enough for any plant long term.
